CloudEx Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the "Screen Recorder Pro" app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the Service, you are deemed to have agreed to the practices described in this Policy.
1. Our Core Principle
Screen Recorder Pro is an app that records your device's screen using Android's screen capture mechanism (the MediaProjection API). All recording, audio capture, and editing is performed entirely on your device.
Because this matters more than anything else for a screen recorder, we state it up front:
- Your recordings, the screenshots you save while recording, your facecam video, and the audio you record are never transmitted to our servers.
- We never view, collect, or analyze the contents of your recordings. We have no mechanism to receive them in the first place.
- A recording leaves your device only when you share it yourself or run a cloud upload yourself, and it goes to the recipient or account that you chose.
2. How Recordings and Audio Are Handled
2.1 Starting a recording and Android's consent screen
When a screen recording starts, Android itself shows its own consent dialog every single time. Recording begins only if you grant permission there. An app cannot skip this consent or obtain it in advance. While recording is in progress, Android requires a persistent notification to be shown, so it is always visible that a recording is running.
2.2 Where recordings, screenshots, and audio are stored
Recorded video files, screenshots saved during a recording, audio captured from the microphone or from internal audio (your device's playback sound), and facecam (front camera) video are all processed on your device and stored only in your device's storage (MediaStore). The Gallery tab simply reads and lists the videos and images already stored on your device.
Facecam video is drawn on screen at that moment so that it appears in the recording. It is never saved separately, and it is never transmitted to us or to any third party.
2.3 The video tools
The video tools — trimming, GIF conversion, merging, audio extraction, rotation, and compression — run entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded to a server for processing, and the resulting files are also saved on your device.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information Collected Automatically
- Anonymous crash reports: Via Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes, we collect the stack trace, device model, OS version, and app version. This does not include personally identifiable information, nor the contents of your recordings or your screen.
- App usage statistics: Via Google Analytics for Firebase. We collect anonymous app usage events (such as the app being opened for the first time) together with device information and the device's advertising ID (AAID). We use this data to understand aggregate app usage and to measure the effectiveness of our own advertising campaigns (counting app installs that resulted from an ad). It is never used to display ads in the app.
- Purchase / license information: We use purchase tokens issued by Google Play to verify your purchase. We never receive any payment information such as credit card numbers.
All of the above concerns how the app itself behaves. Your recorded files and their contents are never part of it.
3.2 Information Stored Only on Your Device
- Your recordings and screenshots: Stored only in your device's storage. They are deleted when, and only when, you delete them.
- App settings: Resolution, frame rate and bitrate, audio source, countdown, the position and display mode of the floating control button, facecam / brush / watermark settings, the save location, and the like are stored only on your device. They are erased when you uninstall the app or clear the app's data.
3.3 Information We Explicitly Do Not Collect
- The contents of your recordings, screenshots, or recorded audio
- What is shown on your screen when you are not recording
- Location information such as GPS coordinates
- Contacts, phone number, or calendar
- A history of the websites you visit or the contents of your communications
- A personally identifiable history of the apps you use
3.4 Permissions the App Requests and Their Purposes
Screen recording requires several OS permissions. Screen Recorder Pro uses them only for the stated purposes, and it does not request the permission for a feature until you enable that feature.
- Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) — Used when you choose to include audio in a recording. It serves only to write the microphone sound, your device's playback sound (internal audio), or both, into the same file as the video being recorded. We never transmit your audio to us and never run speech recognition on it. It is not used at all if you record without audio.
- Camera (CAMERA) — Used only if you enable the facecam feature. It serves only to overlay your front camera video on the screen so that it appears in the recording. The app does not take photographs and does not store or transmit camera video on its own.
- Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — Used to draw the floating control button and control panel, the facecam, on-screen drawing (brush), and the watermark on top of the screen. Drawing over the screen is all it does; it cannot read the contents of other apps.
- Notifications (Android 13+ / POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — Used to show the persistent recording notification that Android requires for foreground services, and to tell you when a file has been saved.
- Foreground services (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, and the MEDIA_PROJECTION / MICROPHONE / CAMERA / SPECIAL_USE types) — Used to keep a recording running while you switch to another app or turn the screen off. Android requires a notification to be shown for as long as these are active.
- Reading videos and images (Android 13+ / READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED) — Used to list your recordings and screenshots in the Gallery tab, and to load the file you choose to edit in the video tools. Files that are loaded are only displayed and edited on your device; they are never transmitted.
- Storage access (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 12 and below, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 10 and below) — Used for the same purposes as above on older versions of Android, where the newer permissions do not exist.
- Internet and network state (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, ACCESS_WIFI_STATE) — Used for the connection when you run a cloud upload yourself, for sending the crash diagnostics and usage statistics described in Section 3.1, and for checking connectivity beforehand. Your recorded files are never sent automatically over this connection.
- Boot completed (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — Used solely to bring back the floating control button after your device restarts, if you have chosen to keep that button on screen. It does nothing if you do not use that setting.
- Creating a shortcut (INSTALL_SHORTCUT) — Used only when you choose to place a "start recording" shortcut on your home screen.
The shake-to-stop feature uses your device's accelerometer. This requires no permission, and the motion it detects is never recorded or transmitted.
3.5 About the "An app is displaying over other apps" notice
For apps that draw over other apps, Android may show a notice stating that an app is displaying over other apps. This is a general message about that behavior itself and does not mean that a problem has been found in Screen Recorder Pro.
What this app draws on the screen is only what you enabled: the control button and panel, the facecam, the brush, and the watermark. The overlay mechanism is technically incapable of reading the contents of other apps. The only way the app can capture screen content is the MediaProjection recording described in Section 2, and that happens only while a recording is running, after you granted Android's consent.
4. Sharing and Cloud Upload
Anything that moves a saved video or image off your device happens only when you explicitly do it.
- Sharing: Android's share sheet passes the file to the app or recipient you pick. We are not involved in the contents or the destination.
- Cloud upload (Google Drive / Dropbox): An optional Premium feature. Only when you sign in with your own account and run an upload is the video sent to your own cloud account. The destination is your account, not our servers. We do not store it, we do not see it, and nothing is uploaded automatically or on a schedule. If you do not use this feature, you are never asked to sign in.
If you do use cloud upload, the handling of the uploaded file is governed by the privacy policy of the cloud service concerned (Google LLC or Dropbox, Inc.).
5. How We Use Information
The limited information we collect is used only for the following purposes:
- Operating and maintaining the Service
- Verifying purchases
- Understanding aggregate app usage and improving the app (analytics)
- Measuring the effectiveness of our own advertising campaigns (install conversion measurement)
- Diagnosing and fixing crashes
- Responding to support inquiries
- Complying with applicable laws
6. Third-Party Services
Screen Recorder Pro uses the following third-party services. Each service has its own privacy policy.
- Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) — anonymous crash diagnostic data
- Google Analytics for Firebase (Google LLC) — anonymous app usage statistics and measurement of our own ad campaigns (install conversions)
- Google Play Billing — payments are completed on the store platform side
- Google Drive (Google LLC) / Dropbox (Dropbox, Inc.) — used as the destination for uploads into your own account, and only if you enable and run the cloud upload described in Section 4
Screen Recorder Pro does not display ads within the app and does not share your data with advertising networks in order to show you ads. We also never hand your recorded video or audio to a third-party service (other than a cloud upload you run yourself, as described in Section 4).
7. Data Retention
- Crash reports: retained for 90 days, then deleted.
- Analytics data: retained by Google Analytics for up to 14 months, then deleted.
- Your recordings and screenshots: stored only on your device, so there is no retention period on our side. You decide when they are deleted.
- Settings stored on your device: erased when you uninstall the app or clear the app's data.
8. International Data Transfers
We are based in Japan. The infrastructure used for crash diagnostics and analytics may be located in various countries. When you use the Service, the minimal information described above may be processed outside your country of residence under standard contractual safeguards. Your recorded video and audio are never part of this.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you reside (e.g., the EEA, UK, California, Japan), you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the limited information we hold. You can:
- Reset or delete your device's advertising ID in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads)
- Revoke the app's microphone, camera, and other permissions at any time in your device settings
- Uninstall the app or clear the app's data to erase the settings on your device
- Contact us at the address below to make a request regarding the information we hold
10. Children's Privacy
Screen Recorder Pro is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age applicable in your region). If we inadvertently collect information from such a child, we will delete it promptly upon being contacted.
11. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The latest version is always published at this URL together with its effective date. We will also notify you within the app of significant changes as appropriate.
